One morning a man was walking on a beach when he came upon a child surrounded by thousands and thousands of starfish. The child was picking them up and throwing them back into the ocean.

Puzzled, the man looked at the child and asked, "What are you doing?"

The child responded without looking up, "I'm trying to save these starfish, sir."

The man chuckled aloud, and queried, "There are thousands of starfish and only one of you. What difference can you make?"

Gently tossing another starfish into the water, the child said, "It will make a difference to that one!"
